WEEK 3

Another week gone and it's still Christmas! Or is it? The paint on the walls is beginning to crack and fade, with especially large chunks in character's bedrooms revealing scratched words like "cantgetoutcantgetout" and "god help me i just want to go home i miss my home i miss my mother i miss" etc. Yikes! The locations page might be updated throughout the week as characters discover more. Seems like now's the perfect time to investigate and hope you'll get closer to finding out what's going on here. There's always more places to look and more things to find!

As a reminder that this week's activity check is now live! And as usual, it's never a bad time to submit threads for regains! Have you been naughty or nice? Naughty children still get presents too, don't worry. And if you'd like to check-in on Thursday night, you always can! You never know what fun you might run into.

So go exploring, find something new and pay no mind to the creepy writing on the walls. We're sure everything will be fine! After all, nothing ever goes wrong on Christmas, right?

Anyways, maybe Lunafreya should be a little bit more unnerved by seeing the facade beginning to fall away from the house, but each glimpse does the exact opposite--it reinforces her determination instead. So when she first notices it Sunday morning, of course her first motion is going to be to search the entirety of room 12 to see what else she can find that might hint at the reality behind this holiday house.

After that, she'll be making her way to the infirmary. They haven't been able to save anyone yet, yes, but that doesn't mean Luna's about to stop trying!]

[ Looking around, Lunafreya might notice that one of the penguin paintings is slightly tilted. Maybe she should take a closer look at that! ]

[You know, she most certainly does! Hopefully it's not that all-too-real painting of the penguin eating, that one's a little disquieting even to her... but she won't shy away. Is there anything behind the painting, or on the reverse side of it?]

[ It's alright, this one is a painting of penguins playing cards! Like, you know, dogs playing cards, but penguins.

Anyway, good instincts, Lunafreya! Behind the painting is an old, faded piece of paper! It looks like it was ripped out of some kind of notebook. It reads:

An observation: I need not collect blood any longer. The symbols proved a success; it soaks into the very floorboards now, thus saving me a great deal of time and energy. The corpses are still around, of course, but that's easy enough to dispose...

Uh-oh! That's pretty creepy... ]

[THAT IS DEFINITELY CREEPY? But it's gonna take more than that to scare Lunafreya off, not when they're apparently living in the mouth of hell...]

Anything unnecessarily spooky in here?

I cannot say I've found anything out of place thus far.

[Which is a little bit surprising, to be honest, but she'll take it?]

Perhaps a place devoted to tending to others is a safe haven against whatever dark force inhabits this house. If the note I found in my room is any indication, any forces here would be malevolent indeed.

I dunno. I hear Ghost Pokemon hang out around hospitals all the time because they get that sweet, sweet misery juice. I guess it might be different here, though, since everywhere's got that going on.

[There are so many things here that she's not quite sure what to question first.]

Misery juice? You mean to say they feed off the pain of others?

Yeah, something like that. I think it's part life force, but you know. That kind of thing.

I mean, I know this place does, since I found some more creepy stuff.

Creepy stuff... do you mean something like this? [Hey sharing information sounds like a great idea to her! Lunafreya pulls out the scrap of paper from room 12, offering it to him to see.]

[Guzma offers his own unsettling scrap of paper from Room 2!!]

So yeah, place feeds on blood and fear. That's awesome, right.

[You chose the wrong person to use sarcasm on, Guzma. For a moment, Lunafreya stares at him as though she can't understand why he's saying that... they're just gonna... move on...]

I cannot say it comes as a surprise to learn as much, and yet I had hoped it would not prove true.

Still, we need only keep faith and we rob this place of any power it may have had. When we refuse to fear, the darkness loses its power over us. It relies on our fear and anger to prevail.

[like, come on, surely someone around you used sarcasm at some point right]

Yeah, it ticks me right off. Like, if we had literally anywhere else to go that wasn't frozen, I'd say we should burn the place down right now, but... we're kinda stuck.

[Look when you live your life as both a political prisoner and a venerated public figure.......... she's been pretty isolated for a long time! Sarcasm was rare.]

That may be the only cure for such a place as this. Perhaps if I had the abilities I once did, there would be an alternative... but the evil of this place is stained into the very floorboards of the house. It is difficult to imagine that it should remain standing if purified.

Yeah, I mean, considering everything we've learned about this freakin' place? We need to level it. I think we're probably gonna regret it otherwise.

Dunno if there's any consequences for us trying to pull it off with no powers or backup, but. Yeah. Can't really do an exorcism or anything.

It will be difficult to bring the others on board with such a plan. But if not us, then who? We cannot leave this place to bring another group of victims.

I dunno. I already talked to Chuuya about it and he's totally on board. I don't really think anyone else who's still around will be that hard to convince.

When it comes to losing the only shelter we know, you may find more protests than you expect. Perhaps we are prepared to make the sacrifice, but others may not be.

Regardless, let us try to convince them...

But promise me we will not let anyone remain behind while it burns.

Oh, heck, no. I mean, I wanna make sure we can get back to wherever we came from first, and that means everyone. Even the people I think are kinda nuts. That way we don't actually have to feel bad about it, since we're, you know, going somewhere better. Somewheres.

Good. [A decisive nod.] I could not condone leaving any of them behind, no matter their deeds or morals.

[Especially not if there's a possibility of seizing the darkness released by the house and twisting it to one's own dark desires...]

What of Princess Starshine and Brasco? Is it your intent to take them with us when we leave as well?

Depends how involved they are in all this, honestly. Like, I'm gonna admit, I'm pretty suspicious of the princess still.

[What can she say to that? Lunafreya has never been suspicious of their hosts--she's never found reason to be.]

I choose to have faith and believe in them.

Our first day here, Thug Dangerzone told me he didn't know how many people had come through these doors before us. The day before he died, he said he'd lost track of how many times he's seen this happen.

If they seem detached or cold, I fear it is because they cannot allow themselves to care. The grief might overwhelm them otherwise.

Well, yeah. I guess I always trusted Thug and Brasco, honestly? But I've...

I can't really trust Starshine the same way, I guess.

Might I ask the reason why?

[There's every possibility that it's just a gut feeling, and if it is, Lunafreya will leave it at that. Sometimes people can't elaborate on why they might feel a certain way. But...]

We must strive to find proof of either her involvement or her innocence. I could not leave her to suffer, were there any doubt.
