WEEK 3

Another week gone and it's still Christmas! Or is it? The paint on the walls is beginning to crack and fade, with especially large chunks in character's bedrooms revealing scratched words like "cantgetoutcantgetout" and "god help me i just want to go home i miss my home i miss my mother i miss" etc. Yikes! The locations page might be updated throughout the week as characters discover more. Seems like now's the perfect time to investigate and hope you'll get closer to finding out what's going on here. There's always more places to look and more things to find!

As a reminder that this week's activity check is now live! And as usual, it's never a bad time to submit threads for regains! Have you been naughty or nice? Naughty children still get presents too, don't worry. And if you'd like to check-in on Thursday night, you always can! You never know what fun you might run into.

So go exploring, find something new and pay no mind to the creepy writing on the walls. We're sure everything will be fine! After all, nothing ever goes wrong on Christmas, right?

Perhaps you could use the day you were... Erm, created as a birthdate and go from there?

Indeed, I am. I was created with the purpose of serving customers of the rooftop planetarium located at the Flowercrest Department Store.

That said, I am an earlier model of robot, so there are some things I cannot do that the newer models can.

[Department stores were a thing in the 1800's but department stores with robot workers? Unheard of!]

I see... But then what were the newer models capable of?

I believe that some of the newer models are built with even more features to imitate humans, such as being able to produce tears, or even smell and taste food as a way to take part in a meal with other people.

[Why should a machine be able to eat food?]

... Nevermind, shall we get back to talk of the constellations?

[Yumemi holds up a card with a pattern of stars depicted on it.]

Are you familiar with this one, by any chance?

[He glances over it.]

Not by name, but it resembles an archer... Do you think he's attempting to shoot a celestial apple off someone's head?

Considering it's position in the night sky, it is often thought of as aiming for the bull depicted in the constellation called "Taurus", which I'm sure you may recognize. [Given their prior talk about horoscopes and all.]

This constellation is called "Orion", named as such for the hunter Orion in Greek Mythology. He was the son of the sea god Poseidon and Euryale, the daughter of King Minos of Crete.

Oh! I see the resemblance now!

[He smiles at the cards.] I think many of these constellations were named after figures in Greek Mythology... Are they?

Indeed. Many Greek, and even some Roman mythologies, were where astronomers took inspiration from when naming the stars and the patterns they form in the sky.

Hm... But aren't the Greek and Roman Mythologies basically the same?

Not always, no! Especially when it comes to names: for example, "Hera" is known as "Juno", and Poseidon would be called "Neptune" in Roman mythology.

Well, I understand that. But if we disregard the names, it's all the same!

Why do you say that, Mr. Gray?

Well... Have you compared the two together, side by side? Hadea and Pluto rule the Underworld, Jupiter and Zeus rule the sky... It's all similar, is it not?

When you put it like that, it does sound similar, but that doesn't make their myths any less different, I think?
